All foreign citizens, including those from European Union countries, need this visa, except those from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

However, to apply, a person needs to receive a definitive job offer in the country. In addition, the candidate must apply at the Turkish consulate in their country of residence. Then, within 10 days of the application, the employer must submit additional documents to the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MLSS).

In Turkey there are different types of work visas depending on the field of the worker as follows:

Employee Termination in Turkey
Termination Process

With an international PEO, you will be able to complete the termination process based on the type of contract and reason. However, the process varies according to the validity of the employment contract and the collective agreement.

Notice Period

In this country, the notice period depends on the working time of the employee in the company as follows:

  • With 0 to 6 months of service 2 weeks of notice
  • From 6 to 18 months of service 4 weeks of notice
  • From 18 to 36 months of service 6 weeks of notice
  • And of more than 36 months the notice will be 8 weeks

Severance Pay

Contractor management services can pay severance pay for workers with more than 1 year of service. In this case, it is for employees who were terminated without just cause or who resigned for just cause. Thus, the calculation consists of the monthly salary of the employee for each full year of work.

However, the employer must also count the remaining months and days to make the payment. Besides, the calculation of this payment is based on the gross salary of the capped employee, including seniority base salaries. In addition, the severance pay ceiling that is equal to the retirement bonus of a public official is updated each year.

In the same way, this compensation includes the gross seniority limit of 10848.50 TRY.

Probation Period

The employment contracts are the ones that establish the trial periods but in Turkey, it is commonly 2 months. After this period, you can perform employee onboarding.

Employee Leaves in Turkey
Paid Time Offs

The Employer of Record in Turkey also manages this time, which must be established by the employer in the employment contract. In this case, there are 14 days of annual paid leave, after completing one year of service without counting holidays. In addition, these days increase to 20 if the worker has served in the company between 5 and 15 years.

Similarly, employees with more than 15 years of service will get 26 days of paid leave. However, both collective contracts, as well as work contracts, may increase this license. But there is an exception for workers under 18 and over 50 years of age, for whom said vacation cannot be less than 20 days.

In addition, the employer must pay for vacation as a lump sum or advance payment before annual leave.

Employers are not required to pay Turkish employees during sick leave. Typically, however, employees who submit a medical report receive one week of paid leave. But you must consider that if the leave exceeds the week of leave, the employee does not receive any payment.

However, sick leave cannot exceed six months or it may have negative consequences. In this case, the employer can terminate the contract of the employee according to article 46 (c) of the Turkish Labor Code.

Both working parents have the right to work part-time until the child starts elementary school. However, the employee must notify the employer about the request 1 month in advance. In addition, a parent is entitled to 10 days of medical visit leave for the treatment of a child with a disability or chronic illness.

Other Leave

Contracts or collective agreements may establish other leaves for employees in Turkey. But they must approve them between the employee and the employer for the following:

  • Bereavement leave. In this case, the employee will be entitled to receive 3 days of paid leave for the death of an immediate family member.
  • Military leave. Employees must receive a leave of 90 paid days per year, to comply with military exercises. You may also receive this permission to fulfill a legal obligation other than compulsory military service.

Maternity Leave in Turkey

With the International PEO services, you will obtain efficient management of this maternity leave. Thus, female employees are entitled to receive 16 weeks of leave, or 18 weeks for multiple/complicated births, fully paid. In addition, this time is divided into 8 weeks before the delivery date and 8 weeks after it.

However, employees can choose to work up to 3 weeks before delivery and get the rest of the time after that. Also, although the Employer of Record in Turkey will be able to manage these payments, they are made by Social Security. Additionally, this depends on the contributions to this entity by the employee.

In the same way, the employer can allow the employee to work part-time after childbirth. This leave also depends on the total number of children the employee has as follows:

  • 60 days of leave for mothers with 1 child
  • 120 days of leave for mothers with 2 children
  • 180 days of leave for mothers with more than 2 children
