Working Hours in Slovenia
General

The typical work week is 40 hours long, spread out over five days, with a 30-minute lunchtime. A worker must complete a minimum of 36 hours per week to be regarded as a full-time worker in Slovenia, with the exception of those who work in hazardous conditions, who may work fewer hours. Overtime

The employment contract or collective agreement governs all labor performed in excess of the required number of hours per week, which must be compensated as overtime. Employee Termination in Slovenia
Termination Process

Depending on the type of agreement and the grounds for termination, the termination procedure differs; depending on the contract of employment or union contract in effect. Regular and unusual dismissals come in two flavors. Regular dismissal is when a worker is let go because of incompetence or misconduct, but extraordinary dismissal occurs when a worker commits a crime, rejects a transfer, or engages in any other major violation.


Every dismissal must be communicated to the company in writing and include a chance for the employee to make a defense. The dismissal must be communicated in paper and in person for unusual dismissals.

Notice Period

The following are the ways in which seniority affects the notice period in Slovenia:


  • Up to a year: 15 days.
  • 1 or 2 years: 30 days.
  • Over 2 years: 30 days plus 2 days for each year after 2 years of service.


The notice period decreases to 7 days and increases to 15 days for an at-fault dismissal if the worker has not completed their probationary period.


When a person is fired under an unusual circumstance, no notice time is necessary. However, the employer still needs to end the notice period within 30 days of the event that was the cause of termination.

Severance Pay

Depending on their seniority, employees have the right to severance pay:


  • Between one and 10 years of service, employees earn 1/5 of the employee's three-month average wage for each year of service.
  • Almost ten years of experience for each year of employment, employees receive one-fourth of your last three months' average income.
  • The severance payment is 1/3 after twenty years of service.

Probation Period

Paid Time Offs

Irrespective of whether they labor full- or part-time, workers are eligible for at least 4 weeks of annual leave pay each year. After 6 months of regular service, an employee is eligible for this payout.

The remainder of the annual leave may be utilized up until 30 June of the next year with the employer's consent, but at least two weeks must be spent by the conclusion of the current year.

Sick Days

In Slovenia, companies need to provide sick pay for a maximum of 30 days of absence; the compensation amount is set in the contract of employment or union contract. The company is required to pay the employee 100.00% of their usual salary if they are absent because of a work-related accident or illness.


Social Security will pay for sick leave that lasts longer than 30 days up until the employee is healthy enough to resume work or their contract is over.


Following illness, an employee must give a health certificate as quickly as possible.

Paternity Leave

The first 15 days of the 30-day paternity leave pay that the father or partner is eligible for must be used within 6 months of the child's birth. Before the child completes the first grade, they may use the remaining leave whenever they'd like.


Paternity pay is set using the preceding year's average wages up to 2.5x the average salary in Slovenia.

Paternal Leave

Slovenia provides each parent with 130 days of parental leave to take care of a kid; in the event of multiple or problematic deliveries, they can extend this entitlement.


In order to care for their baby, a father may transfer all of their leave to the mother. However, the woman may only transfer up to 100 days of her time to the father. With global employment outsourcing, companies can find employees to cover while others are on leave.

Other Leave

Employees in Slovenia are eligible for a maximum of seven days of personal leave pay per year. This time off is for weddings, births, and bereavement.

Maternity Leave in Slovenia

In Slovenia, expectant mothers are entitled to 105 days of maternity leave pay, which starts 28 days before the delivery date. Employees need to use at least 15 days of this time. An employee must have pay into the Parent Protection Insurance for three years prior to becoming pregnant in order to qualify for paid maternity leave.


The employee will receive compensation from social security according to the amount they have been paying into the Parent Protection insurance; the reward will range from 55% of the minimal base income to twice the Slovenian average monthly wage.
